MINIATURE AND FULL SIZE CATTLE @ CD&J MINI RANCH

Our Texas Miniature Cattle came from Northern Iowa, Oklahoma and Central Texas.  We really enjoy handling and watching our miniature cattle, they are easy keepers and don't eat near as much grass as our beef cows.  We are producing a beautiful miniature cow from several desirable smaller breeds, which include a tiny part of Miniature Longhorn, Florida Crackers, Miniature Herford and Zebu.  Most of my smaller breeds are decedent's of the Corriente cattle.  I find the Corriente cattle especially interesting because they descended from Spanish cows brought to the United States in the late 15th century.  These small cattle were originally bred for their meat for Homestead ranchers with little grazing land.  Their meat is naturally lower in fat and cholesterol than the meat from most modern beef cattle. (We do not butcher or eat our Miniature cattle, they are pets.) Corriente fit the vision of the Homestead rancher in that they are highly productive, inexpensive to care for, and resourceful foragers.

My cattle are hardy, efficient and a rainbow of colors, from tri-colors to brindled, speckles to spots.  They also produce beautiful roans in whites, reds and blacks.  These cattle are about 1/4th the size of their standard counterparts, giving birth without assistance or hurting themselves or the calves.  The calves weigh about 17 pounds at birth. The bulls are muscular and the cows are elegant and graceful, they are not large cows on short legs.  So you put all these cattle breeds and attributes together and move them to TEXAS and the TEXAS Miniature Cattle breed is what you get.
